THE NEW ELDORADO

THE NEW ELDORADO

The Beef Industry in the Brazilian Amazon is today the largest vector of deforestation in the world. Between 1990 and 2009 Brazil increased its cattle herd by 40 percent and became the world’s largest exporter of meats and leather on the planet. The Amazon has become a New Eldorado for this market that is driven by a global economy. Interest in this region involves large world banks and governments that are partners of large multinational companies supplying meats, footwear, furniture and car upholstery. In contrast, Brazil has also become the world’s fourth largest emitter of greenhouse gases that superheat the planet, being today the main environmental issue for the preservation of man’s life and the biodiversity of nature.
